From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar
Residents of Dutsen Bakoshi and Goda communities in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to the Kano State Government and other relevant authorities to urgently intervene over the shortage of potable drinking water in the area.
The communities expressed concern over the condition of the earth dam serving the two towns, describing the water as polluted and hazardous for both human and animal consumption.
In a joint statement signed by Alhaji Musa Balarabe of Dutsen Bakoshi and made available to our correspondent in Calabar, the communities said the situation poses serious health risks to residents and their livestock.
According to the statement, the people of Dutsen Bakoshi and Goda rely heavily on water from the dam reservoir, which they described as unhygienic, especially during periods when water becomes scarce.
The communities also expressed fears that the condition of the earth dam could become a major threat to the lives and wellbeing of residents.
“We, the entire people of Dutsen Bakoshi and Goda towns under Shanono Local Government Area, are appealing to the concerned authorities, including the Chairman of Shanono Local Government Area, the Honourable Member of the State House of Assembly, the Honourable Member representing Shanono/Bagwai Federal Constituency, and the Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin, to come to our rescue due to the lack of potable drinking water in our communities,” the statement said.
The residents noted that the scarcity of clean water has exposed the communities to several water-borne diseases, including cholera, gastroenteritis, eczema and other skin-related infections.
They therefore called on the Kano State Government, elected representatives and other concerned citizens to urgently address the problem before it escalates further.
“We are appealing to the authorities concerned to urgently come to our rescue.
We hope the government and relevant stakeholders will respond swiftly to our plight,” the communities added.
