The Kano State Government has restated its commitment to eradicating polio and other childhood killer diseases across the state.
The state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, made this known on Friday during a meeting with the state Taskforce on Immunization and Primary Healthcare held at the Government House, Kano.
Gwarzo, who chairs the task force, stressed the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to tackle polio, which he described as a lingering threat to children’s health and well-being.
“Polio remains a deadly disease that requires collective responsibility and sustained action. We must ensure that every child is protected through effective immunization, and no one is left behind,” he said.
The deputy governor dismissed rumors and misinformation surrounding the safety of polio vaccines, maintaining that the vaccines are safe and effective.
He urged parents to ensure their children receive all routine immunizations and called on community leaders, development partners, and stakeholders to sustain their support for ongoing campaigns.
“We must continue to work with UNICEF, traditional leaders, local government councils, and all our development partners to eliminate polio from Kano State permanently,” he added.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Gaya Local Government Area, Mahmud Tajo Gaya, who represented the 44 LG chairmen in the state, pledged their full support and compliance with the immunization drive.
He also commended the state government for providing logistics and resources to facilitate effective immunization activities across communities.
The Kano State Government reiterated its determination to safeguard children’s health and called on residents to play their part in achieving a polio-free Kano.
