The Kano State Government on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to accelerate development across critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural development.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the pledge while receiving the Bank’s Vice President (Operations), Dr. Rami Ahmad, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Kano.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, Yusuf described the partnership with IsDB as central to his administration’s development blueprint.
“Our administration is determined to work hand in hand with the Islamic Development Bank to accelerate growth, create opportunities, and improve the living standards of our people. We are confident that this partnership will open doors for critical investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure,” the governor said.
He commended the Bank’s global interventions, noting that Kano has been a major beneficiary of its projects in Nigeria.
The Deputy Governor, on behalf of the governor, presented a letter of appreciation to Dr. Ahmad, assuring the Bank of Kano’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for its interventions.
“We extend our profound appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank for its steadfast support. This government will not relent in backing your initiatives to ensure their successful implementation across Kano State,” Gwarzo said.
He specifically highlighted the impact of the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), which has supported milk collection centres, abattoirs, rural roads, and other projects directly linked to the state’s economic growth.
Responding, Dr. Ahmad praised Kano’s commitment to people-centred governance, describing the state as a strategic partner for the Bank in Nigeria.
“Kano remains a strategic partner for the Islamic Development Bank in Nigeria. We are impressed by the government’s vision and are committed to supporting projects that will have a lasting impact on the people,” he said.
The visit, according to officials, marks another milestone in Kano’s bid to strengthen partnerships with international development institutions and position itself as a hub for sustainable growth in Northern Nigeria.
