The Kano State Government has reopened Malam Shehu Minjibir Boarding School in Minjibir Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve access to quality education and strengthen moral upbringing among students.
The State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, disclosed this while addressing newly admitted students of the school.
He said the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf took the decision to reopen the school to enable students from all the 44 Local Government Areas of the state to benefit from structured learning in a conducive and well-supervised environment.
Makoda stressed the importance of boarding schools in promoting unity and social integration, noting that bringing together students from different parts of the state would foster mutual understanding, tolerance, discipline, and peaceful coexistence.
According to him, the boarding system allows students to focus on their studies without distractions while receiving proper academic and moral guidance from teachers and caregivers.
He added that the state government had committed a significant portion of its annual budget to the education sector and had commenced key developmental programmes aimed at strengthening the system.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Yusuf Kabir, revealed that 179 students were admitted into the school from across the 44 Local Government Areas.
He noted that due process was strictly followed during the admission exercise, including entrance examinations and screening of qualified candidates.
Kabir further disclosed that the state government provided school uniforms, mattresses, and other essential materials to ensure the comfort and welfare of the students.
He appreciated the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Amasco Company, and Ibzar Printing Company for their support toward the successful reopening of the school.
He also commended the governor for approving feeding funds, recruiting qualified teachers, and strengthening security measures at the school.
Some parents who accompanied their children expressed gratitude to the state government for revitalising the institution and prioritising educational development.
