Residents of Kano State have commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, for their timely intervention in suspending the planned Eid Durbar processions by the two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne.
The planned Hawan Daushe processions by His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II had generated widespread tension across Kano metropolis, with many residents expressing fears that the parallel events could lead to a breakdown of law and order, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
Security experts and concerned citizens had earlier warned that allowing the two processions to hold simultaneously could trigger violence and unrest in parts of the state.
However, the decisive action taken by the nation’s security leadership to suspend the Durbar activities has been widely described as patriotic, courageous, and necessary to safeguard peace and public safety.
Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of the Women Lawyers Congress, Barrister Nafisa Abba Isma’eel, praised the security authorities for acting swiftly to prevent a possible crisis.
“The timely intervention by the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Kano State Commissioner of Police saved Kano from what could have resulted in a major tragedy.
“Their actions demonstrated professionalism, patriotism, and genuine concern for the safety of the people.
“We commend them wholeheartedly for placing peace and public safety above every other consideration,” she stated.
Barrister Nafisa also urged residents of Kano State to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and supportive of all lawful measures aimed at maintaining stability in the state.
Also speaking, legal practitioner and Chairman of Kano Concern Civil Society Organisation, Barrister Abubakar Musa Tudun Wada, applauded the maturity and sense of responsibility displayed by the two emirs in complying with the directives of security agencies despite extensive preparations already made for the Durbar processions.
“We sincerely appreciate His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II for demonstrating restraint and respect for constituted authority by suspending the planned Hawan Daushe despite all arrangements already concluded.
Their decision has greatly contributed to preserving peace and preventing unnecessary tension in Kano State,” he said.
Barrister Abubakar Tudun Wada further described the decision of both traditional rulers as a commendable sacrifice made in the overall interest of peace, unity, and stability in Kano State.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue to obey the law, avoid actions capable of causing unrest, and support security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace across the state.
Observers believe that the peaceful suspension of the planned Durbar processions has once again underscored the importance of dialogue, maturity, and responsible leadership in safeguarding the unity and stability of Kano State.
