The Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, has expressed satisfaction with the growing pace of development across the district, attributing the achievements to effective representation, legislative engagement and constructive collaboration with the Federal Government.

Senator Kawu Sumaila stated this while highlighting the impact of his representation and the various development projects and federal institutions approved for Kano South. He said the growing number of interventions reflected the importance of persistent advocacy and meaningful engagement with relevant authorities.

The Senator expressed appreciation to the people of Kano South for their continued support and confidence, saying the district had begun to witness tangible improvements through interventions designed to address critical needs in education, healthcare, agriculture, roads and other areas.

According to him, one of the major achievements secured through legislative engagement, persuasion and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration was the Federal Government’ approval of a Federal Medical Centre and a Federal Polytechnic for Kano State.

He described the approvals as major milestones capable of transforming access to healthcare and education.
Kawu explained that Kano had previously been among the states without a Federal Medical Centre, stressing that the approval had now removed the state from that category.

He similarly noted that the approval of a Federal Polytechnic would address a long-standing gap in federal technical and tertiary education infrastructure in the state, with Kano South expected to benefit significantly.

He also commended the Federal Government for approving the relocation of a community development institution from Rano to Sumaila Local Government Area.

According to him, the decision would create the necessary space for the newly established Federal Polytechnic in Rano to operate effectively, while allowing the relocated institution to continue serving its purpose within another part of Kano South.

The Senator further highlighted agricultural interventions targeted at improving irrigation farming and supporting farmers across the senatorial district. He disclosed that about 6,000 farmers were being targeted for direct support through the provision of pumping machines and two wells each, with the aim of increasing agricultural production and strengthening the local economy.

Kawu said the agricultural intervention was designed to combine immediate relief with long-term solutions, explaining that the provision of irrigation equipment would provide farmers with immediate support, while larger water projects, including Dams, would provide more sustainable solutions to the challenges of dry-season farming.

He also identified the approximately 30-kilometre Garko-Kibiya road as another major intervention secured through the Federal Government budget. He said the road, alongside approved projects involving bridges, Rural Roads, drainage and erosion control, would improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen economic activities across rural communities.

The Senator maintained that political representation should not be measured by speeches alone but by the tangible projects, institutions and opportunities delivered to the people.

“Politics is all about what we are taking back home,” Kawu Sumaila said, assuring the people of Kano South that he would continue to pursue projects and interventions capable of producing lasting improvements in their lives and communities.
