The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has clarified a recent report by Tracka, published by Sahara Reporters, alleging that the Board could not provide the locations of classroom renovation projects reportedly funded with over N1 billion.
In a statement, the Board explained that Tracka submitted a Freedom of Information (FOI) request on May 19, 2026, seeking details of contractors, project locations and the implementation status of the renovation projects.
According to SUBEB, it contacted Tracka through the telephone number provided in the request and invited its representatives to the Board for further clarification and verification.
The Board, however, said the representatives did not visit its office as invited.
SUBEB also disputed the impression that Jili Primary School in Rimin Gado was the only beneficiary of the renovation projects.
The Board listed Rimingado Indabo Primary School and Dansudu Primary School among schools that benefited from renovation interventions.
It added that other schools, including GGJSS Yalwa, Zango Primary School and Butubutu Primary School, benefited from whole-school renovation projects, among others.
The Board further reaffirmed that all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State have benefited from various educational infrastructure interventions at different times.
SUBEB said it remains committed to transparency, accountability and proper documentation of public projects, adding that it is willing to engage Tracka, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to facilitate proper verification of projects executed across the state.
The Board urged members of the public to rely on verified information and official records when assessing government projects.
