A strategic meeting of the Kano State Task Force Committee on the Mobilization of Voter Registration was held on June 11, 2026, at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs under the chairmanship of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
The meeting brought together committee members and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the progress of the ongoing voter registration exercise and develop strategies for the remaining weeks before the conclusion of the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The meeting, which built on previous engagements, was highly productive, with participants reviewing achievements recorded so far under the ongoing voter registration campaign in the state.
It was noted that Kano State currently ranks first among all states in terms of the number of registered voters, particularly in the category of physical registration.
This achievement reflects the success of sustained public awareness campaigns and coordinated mobilization efforts across communities and institutions.
As part of efforts to achieve the desired targets in this phase of the exercise, the committee, in collaboration with INEC, has finalized arrangements for a large-scale voter registration mobilization campaign across the state’s three senatorial zones.
The exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at designated centres in Wudil, Bichi, and Kano Central Senatorial Districts.
The committee emphasized that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to deepen civic participation, particularly among young people and students, while ensuring that all eligible residents across the state are captured in the voter register.
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all stakeholders involved in the exercise to ensure a seamless, inclusive, and transparent registration process.
The government also called on eligible Kano residents, especially students and youths who have attained the age of 18, to take advantage of the opportunity to register and become eligible voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
