Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has intensified political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, seeking closer collaboration with former caretaker councillors and a women-led APC media group following their endorsement of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s bid for a second term.
The Commissioner made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving separate delegations from the Forum of Former Caretaker Councillors and the North West APC Women Media Group at his office in Kano.
Waiya said the Yusuf administration’s development record provides a strong basis for continued public support, stressing that sustaining the state’s progress requires unity among stakeholders and political support groups.
According to him, the state government has initiated more than 1,500 projects across Kano’s 44 local government areas, covering healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, youth development and women empowerment.
He said many of the projects have been completed, while others are at advanced stages of execution, all aimed at improving the living standards of residents.
The Commissioner also defended the recent payment of outstanding entitlements to former councillors, describing it as a humanitarian gesture intended to ease the hardship faced by beneficiaries.
He dismissed opposition criticism of the exercise, insisting that the governor’s decision was motivated by a sense of responsibility rather than politics.
“It is time for us to unite and prevent unpatriotic elements from mismanaging the resources of our dear state. Your decision to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term reflects your commitment to the continued development of Kano,” Waiya said.
He assured the Forum of Former Caretaker Councillors of the ministry’s readiness to work closely with them in mobilising grassroots support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Ahmed Hamza Danlabaran, said the delegation visited the ministry to formally endorse Governor Yusuf’s second-term aspiration.
He commended the governor for settling the outstanding entitlements of former councillors, describing the move as a demonstration of responsible and compassionate leadership, while appealing for similar attention to the welfare of former caretaker councillors.
In a separate meeting, the North West APC Women Media Group also declared support for the re-election of Governor Yusuf and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The group’s Chairperson, Hajiya Karimatu Musa Kofar Nasarawa, said members were seeking partnership with the ministry to promote the achievements of both the Kano State and Federal Governments through coordinated media advocacy.
Responding, Waiya welcomed the group’s commitment, describing women as vital partners in public communication and political mobilisation.
He pledged the ministry’s support in amplifying government programmes and achievements, stressing that effective public enlightenment remains essential to sustaining public confidence in both administrations.
