Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans for a comprehensive renovation of the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) as part of efforts to strengthen academic standards and upgrade dilapidated infrastructure in the institution.

Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday during an unscheduled visit to the college in Kano, where he was accompanied by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and senior government officials.

A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the governor embarked on the visit to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the college’s condition and to determine the extent of work required to restore the institution’s “dignity and academic value.”

According to the statement, the rehabilitation plan will cover the renovation of classrooms, the auditorium, laboratories, and several critical facilities that have fallen into disrepair over the years.

The governor also hinted that the expansion of the school to include hostels for boarding students may be considered.

Addressing students during the visit, Yusuf urged them to remain disciplined and committed to their studies, stressing that academic excellence remained key to benefiting from the state’s domestic and foreign scholarship programmes.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Gwarzo, disclosed that the state executive council had recently approved ₦270 million for the completion and furnishing of the college’s e-library, adding that the intervention aligns with the administration’s long-term investment in the education sector.

The Provost of KASCEPS, Dr Auwal Muhammad Faruk, led the governor and his entourage around the institution, highlighting areas requiring immediate government attention.
