The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering harmonious labour relations, pledging to sustain collaboration with labour leaders through diplomatic and strategic approaches to drive socio-economic development and productivity.

The pledge was made by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, during a two-day seminar on “Effective Collective Bargaining and Negotiation Between Labour Leaders and Employers at Local Government Level”, held at Royal Blue Hotels, Kaduna, on February 17, 2026.

Represented by the Ministry’s Director of Recruitment, Training, and Retirement, Alhaji Ali S. Faragai, the Commissioner highlighted that the training is part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen industrial peace and promote productive labour relations across the state.

“Collective bargaining and negotiation are essential tools for resolving disputes and fostering mutual understanding between employers and employees,” Alhaji Tajo Othman said. “This training is designed to equip our labour leaders with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of modern labour relations.”

The seminar, organised in collaboration with Beatific Synergy and Ventures Limited, brought together NULGE leaders and Local Government officials from all 44 LGAs. Participants engaged in sessions covering negotiation strategies, conflict resolution, and effective collective bargaining techniques, aimed at enhancing labour harmony and boosting productivity.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Alhaji Garba Umar Durbunde, commended the administration’s commitment to building harmonious working relations and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to advance the state’s development agenda.

In his welcome address, Kano State President General of NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammed, emphasised the training’s importance in equipping labour leaders to represent their members effectively and resolve disputes peacefully.

Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, National President General of NULGE, praised Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s visionary leadership, noting, “The governor’s initiative is a game-changer. We appreciate his dedication to improving the capacity of local government personnel through regular training and re-training in the state.”

Veteran labour leader and District Head of Rimin Gado, Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, stressed that honesty, humanity, and humility are key to achieving success in labour matters, urging participants to embrace these principles in their work.

The training is expected to strengthen labour-management collaboration, reduce workplace conflicts, and contribute to Kano State’s socio-economic development.
