The Karaye Old Boys Association (KAROBA) has intensified efforts toward the reopening of Unity College, Karaye, which was closed by the previous administration due to security challenges in the area.

In a statement issued to journalists by the National Public Relations Officer of the association, Comrade Ibrahim Salihu Kurna, following a joint meeting of the National Executive Council and members of the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) Committees held on June 14, 2026, at the association’s National Secretariat, KAROBA reaffirmed its commitment to educational development and the welfare of its members.

According to Kurna, the high-level meeting focused on critical infrastructure updates, members’ welfare, and educational advocacy aimed at strengthening the association’s impact on society.

The meeting reviewed the report of the recent AGM Committee, addressing outstanding issues, challenges encountered, and successes recorded.

The association also discussed strategies for improving the planning and coordination of future AGMs to ensure greater participation and effectiveness.

On the issue of infrastructure, KAROBA finalized financial commitments for the payment of the annual rent of its current National Secretariat.

The executive also initiated discussions on acquiring a permanent secretariat to serve as a lasting legacy and operational headquarters for the association.

A major highlight of the meeting was the continued advocacy for the reopening of Unity College, Karaye.

The school has remained closed for more than three years following its shutdown by the Kano State Government over security concerns.

KAROBA resolved to intensify engagements with relevant authorities, security agencies, and the Kano State Government to facilitate the safe reopening of the institution and ensure that academic activities resume without further delay.

“The joint meeting underscores KAROBA’s unwavering commitment not only to the welfare of its members but also to the revival of our alma mater.

“The prolonged closure of Unity College, Karaye, is a matter of great concern to us, and we are putting in place concrete measures to ensure our voice is heard and our impact is felt,” Kurna stated.

The association expressed optimism that with sustained collaboration among stakeholders, the school would soon reopen and continue its role in providing quality education to future generations.
