From Maawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
Katsina State Commissioner of Higher and Technical Education, Professor Abdul Hamid Ahmed has dismissed a claim by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over inadequate funding to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University by the state government.
Ahmed who spoke to newsmen said the the claim by ASUU is baseless and untrue.
“ASUU branch of Yar’Adua University is not fair to the Radda administration, they should investigate issues before making comments,” he said.
Ahmed further said the Radda administration did not reduce the monthly running cost for the university from ₦16millon to ₦7millon’.
According to him, the deduction was done in 2015 and “We sustained payment of the monthly running cost to the university.”
Ahamed said the state government in addition to payment of monthly running costs, approved and released all financial needs of the University.
He said recently, the Government released about ₦900millon to universities for accreditation of some courses.
He further said the government also released ₦400millon to the university to conduct the 13th and 14th combined convocations.
The commissioner said the government has sustained payment of Earned Academic Allowance to staff of the university.
Stressing that the state government is ready to look at and approve any financial request from the management of the university.
