The Wife of the Katsina State Governor, Zulaihat Dikko Radda, has led a North-West mobilisation campaign to encourage youth and women to obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
The event, held at Karankanda Stadium in Katsina, drew women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, and Jigawa. National party leaders and supporters from all 34 local government areas of Katsina State were also in attendance.
Speaking at the occasion, Zulaihat said the campaign was initiated to motivate women and young people to register and collect their PVCs.
She expressed concern over the low turnout, particularly among women, at designated INEC registration centers.
“I want to urge women and youth across the state to take this seriously and ensure they visit the INEC centers to obtain their voter cards.
Our chairmen at the local government levels are expected to carry out similar mobilisation campaigns,” she said.
Earlier, the National Deputy Women Leader of the APC, Zainab Ibrahim, explained that the event was organised to highlight the importance of PVCs.
She also called on INEC to provide additional registration centers, particularly in rural areas, to ensure wider access.
“We commend the women who turned out today in large numbers; this shows that when properly motivated, women can lead the way in democratic participation,” she said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Isah Migidad, assured that similar mobilisation campaigns would be conducted across other local government areas.
He noted that local councils had recruited ad hoc staff at the ward level to educate residents and encourage PVC registration.
“The councils are committed to ensuring that every eligible citizen is registered to vote. We have put measures in place to guide and support residents at every ward,” Migidad said.
The campaign is part of broader efforts by the APC in the North-West to strengthen voter education and participation ahead of upcoming elections.
