From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina

The Katsina State Government has completed seven road projects and is currently funding 14 others across the state.

This was contained in a 16-page midterm report of the House of Assembly Committee on Works and Housing, presented during plenary by its chairman, Engr. Sama’ila Mu’azu Bawa.

The report showed that six of the completed projects were inherited from the previous administration.

According to Bawa, completed projects include the Marabar Musawa–Tabani–Ginigin-Kano road, Kafur–Gurai–Bugawa–Sabon Layi Sirai–Kagara–Mahuta road, the dual carriageway from Dutsinma Road–Mani Road–Daura, rehabilitation of Tsohuwar Kasuwa road, Randa–Duguru–Garu road, Dayi–Tuge–Wawar Kaza road, and Dogon Marke–Yari Bori–Kafur road.

He added that the committee conducted three separate oversight visits to 10 road projects to assess progress and quality of work. Projects inspected included the Malumfashi township road, Malumfashi bypass, and the construction of the Kafur–Gurai–Gugawa–Sabon Layi Sirai–Kagara–Mahuta road, among others.

Bawa said the committee also reviewed submissions from the Ministry of Works on both capital and recurrent expenditure, ensuring compliance with the approved budget.

He noted that the committee made 11 recommendations, which were adopted by the House to improve project delivery.

Key recommendations include updating contract agreements to reflect global changes in construction methods and setting up a panel to review ongoing or abandoned projects to determine whether they should be continued or re-awarded.

Presenting the report, Bawa commended the executive arm of government for fulfilling its campaign promises on road construction, citing three key completed projects as examples.

After deliberation, House members unanimously approved all recommendations and praised the committee for its work.
