The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Katsina State has elected new officials to steer the affairs of the union for the next three years.
Nasiru Wada Maiadua was re-elected as President, along with 12 other officials, during the 9th quadrennial state delegate conference.
Speaking at the event, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, assured that his administration would continue working with local government councils to improve rural development.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to granting full financial autonomy to the councils and commended NULGE for its cooperation in implementing government policies.
In his remarks, Comrade Nasiru Maiadua highlighted the union’s achievements under his leadership, including the regular payment of salaries, terminal benefits for retirees, and staff promotions.
He noted that local government employees in Katsina can now advance to Grade 16 and emphasized efforts to enhance service delivery at the grassroots.
“We are working to establish cooperative shops across the 34 local governments to address the economic challenges facing our members,” Maiadua stated. He also called on the state government to include union members in the distribution of agricultural equipment and facilities.
The President assured members of his continued commitment to improving their working conditions.
In his speech, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hussain Yanduna, commended the state government for implementing the new minimum wage and promised the NLC’s continued collaboration with the government to ensure a conducive working environment.
Other speakers at the event included the National President of NULGE, Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, and the state chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Muhtari Rumah, who also applauded the union’s efforts and pledged their support for its initiatives.
