From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the establishment of a Family Court to handle family-related cases and implement the Child Rights Act.

The State Commissioner for Justice, Fadilah Mohammed Dikko, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting. She said the court would soon commence operations.

According to her, the Ministry of Justice will work closely with the State Chief Judge to facilitate the take-off of the court.

Dikko also revealed that the council approved a comprehensive review and update of the state’s laws, many of which have remained unchanged since Katsina was created nearly 35 years ago.

She described the existing laws as outdated and emphasized the need to revise them to address current challenges and support the state’s development.

The Commissioner noted that the updated legal framework would benefit legal practitioners and researchers, and assured that the revised laws would be published on the state government’s website for public access.

Dikko commended the state government for the initiative, describing the review as the first of its kind in the Northwest region.
