The Jibia Local Government Council has commenced the rehabilitation and expansion of the Tsamben Tsauni Dam in Mallamawa Ward, a decisive intervention aimed at addressing persistent water shortages affecting both residents and their livestock.

The dam, which had suffered years of neglect and erosion of its capacity, had in recent times failed to meet the community’s water demands, particularly during the dry season when scarcity intensifies.

Speaking on the project, the Chairman of Jibia Local Government, Hon. Sirajo Ado Jibia, directed the immediate desilting and expansion of the dam to increase its water retention capacity and restore its functionality.

“The rehabilitation and expansion of Tsamben Tsauni Dam is a critical step for the welfare of our people. It will guarantee consistent water supply for domestic use, livestock, and small-scale irrigation,” Hon. Jibia said.

“We cannot continue to have our people travel long distances just to fetch water; this project changes that narrative.”

Community members in Tsamben Tsauni welcomed the council’s initiative. Alhaji Musa Umar, a local farmer, expressed optimism that the project would improve agricultural productivity.

“This dam has been our lifeline for years. With this expansion, I can irrigate my farm without worrying about water shortage during the dry season,” Umar said.

The project forms part of the broader rural development agenda of the Jibia Local Government, aimed at improving critical infrastructure, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting sustainable socio-economic growth across communities in the area.

By prioritising water security, the council seeks to boost productivity, reduce hardships, and ensure residents have reliable access to one of their most essential resources.
