Following the ongoing seven-day nationwide warning strike by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Katsina State chapter of the Hospital Friends Association has mobilised its members to offer basic first aid and humanitarian support to patients across health facilities in the state.

The Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bilya Sanda Khadimul Islam, called on members across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state to actively engage in supporting patients during the strike period.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Katsina, Sanda acknowledged the vital role of nurses and midwives in the healthcare sector and expressed hope that the industrial dispute would be resolved amicably for the benefit of both health workers and the general public.

The statement, signed by Public Relations Officer of the Association, Hamisu Adamu Gamarali, noted that volunteers had already been mobilised from various groups to provide first aid services.

Groups supporting the effort include Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Red Cross Society, Lajnarul Hisbah, and Muazzamatul Fityanul Islam.

The volunteer teams have commenced services at the General Hospital Katsina and are extending similar interventions to hospitals in other parts of the state.

Alhaji Bilya Sanda also confirmed that food, water, and logistics had been provided to all volunteers to aid their humanitarian work during the strike.

The Katsina Hospital Friends Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting patients and health institutions in times of crisis, urging members to remain steadfast in the values of compassion, unity, and service.
