The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has commended Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, for sponsoring more than 700 law students from the state in various universities and the Nigerian Law School.
According to a statement issued by the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Muhammad, the NBA President gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Buni at the Government House in Damaturu.
Osigwe said available records showed that the governor had sponsored over 700 law students, describing the gesture as a remarkable investment in human capital and the legal profession.
“Available records indicate that you have sponsored over 700 law students. That is indeed a commendable effort,” he said.
He also praised the progress recorded in other sectors of the state, noting that the government has remained focused on development despite years of security challenges.
“The state government has remained focused as it moves out of the protracted security challenge,” Osigwe added.
Responding, Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the rule of law and supporting legal institutions to strengthen justice, peace and security across the state.
“It is said that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. Government will continue to support every instrument and institution that promotes justice, peace and security in the state,” the governor said.
Governor Buni also appreciated the NBA President for visiting Yobe State, describing the visit as one that gave legal practitioners in the state a greater sense of belonging.
“Your visit today gives us that sense of belonging, and I truly appreciate you,” he added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yobe State Branch, Barr. Khaliel, also commended Governor Buni for his sustained support to law students, saying the intervention has ensured that financial hardship does not prevent qualified students from pursuing legal education and achieving their career aspirations.
