The new Executive Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Dr. Zaid Abubakar, has pledged to surpass Kano’s revenue generation to achieve an impressive percentage to the desirous of the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Dr. Abubakar disclosed this while addressing the staff and management team of the agency when the latter assumed office recently.

Assuming office on Monday, Dr Abubakar said: “We must be vigilant in identifying and addressing revenue leakages within our tax system. This requires strengthening our enforcement mechanisms, enhancing internal controls, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to plug loopholes and prevent tax evasion and avoidance.”

He further explained that the KIRS will commit to adopting a proactive approach to revenue generation, leveraging data analytics, technology, and innovative strategies to identify untapped revenue sources and maximize collection efforts.

According to him, transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of the organization, he stressed that he will operate with the highest standards of integrity, openness, and ethical conduct, ensuring that every action he takes is guided by principles of fairness, honesty, and accountability to the people of Kano State.

On the staff welfare, Dr. Abubakar, said he is committed to prioritizing their welfare, well-being, and professional development, adding that, he will create a conducive work environment that fosters employee morale, satisfaction, and growth opportunities.
