The Northern Elders Progressive Movement has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in tackling insecurity, developing infrastructure, and promoting political cohesion across the country.
The movement said the President’s achievements in nation-building, unity, and peace are significant and worthy of recognition.
The Secretary-General of the group, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar, stated this in a statement issued on Sunday.
He described the Federal Government’s achievements across various human and capital development sectors as a major step towards sustaining political unity, peace, and mutual understanding despite external pressures and national challenges.
The movement called on Nigerians to embrace unity and understanding in order to build a prosperous nation anchored on development and peace.
“There is no sacrifice for national unity and political understanding that is too great. We must tolerate one another, respect our leaders with dignity and hope, so that future generations can benefit from it.
“Our country is in dire need of political goodwill and support for peaceful coexistence,” the statement said.
The group also praised President Tinubu’s efforts in addressing insecurity in the North, particularly the North-West, noting that the progress recorded should be appreciated despite occasional attacks on some communities.
It commended the gallant troops conducting operations in forests and other hideouts used by bandits, describing their efforts as a major contribution to the fight against terrorism.
The movement highlighted recent successes recorded in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara States, where bandits’ enclaves were destroyed and some of their leaders eliminated, as evidence of progress in the ongoing security operations.
It also commended Operation Fansan Yamma and other security initiatives aimed at restoring and sustaining peace in the region.
The group further praised the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and the Defence Headquarters for their commitment to strengthening military operations under Operation Fansan Yamma across communities in the North-West.
