Family members, political associates and well-wishers has on Friday gathered at Alfurqan Juma’at Mosque, Kano, for the wedding fatiha of Dr Abdulrahman Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, son of Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and former member of the House of Representatives.
Dr Abdulrahman was joined in marriage with Labiba Ahmad Muhammad, daughter of Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad, mni, a former Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, in a ceremony conducted in line with Islamic traditions.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, served as the groom’s wali (guardian) during the ceremony, where a dowry of N500,000 was presented on behalf of the groom.
The Chief Imam of Alfurqan Juma’at Mosque, Dr Bashir Umar, offered prayers for Allah’s blessings upon the newlywed couple, seeking a marriage filled with peace, love, prosperity and righteous children.
Speaking after the solemnisation, Ganduje advised the couple to build their marriage on patience, mutual understanding and respect.
He urged both spouses to exercise patience, noting that the husband should demonstrate greater tolerance while the wife should remain respectful and supportive in order to achieve a peaceful and successful home.
An uncle of the groom, Alhaji Kabir Mahmud Ismail, Danmakwayon Gaya, described the wedding as a memorable occasion for the family and expressed appreciation to all guests who attended.
Similarly, Nura Mahmud Ismail congratulated the couple and encouraged them to maintain love, respect and support for each other while avoiding unnecessary interference from third parties in resolving marital matters.
Other family members, including Alhaji Sabo Umar and Alhaji Surajo Mahmud Barde, prayed for Allah to bless the union with love, mercy, patience, understanding, peace and prosperity.
The groom’s father, Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the couple and advised them to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), remain patient with one another and live in accordance with the fear of Allah (SWT).
He also appreciated guests who travelled from different parts of the country to celebrate with his family.
Among the dignitaries who attended the occasion were Kano State Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf; former Kano State Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna; the Secretary to the State Government; Chief of Staff; members of the State Executive Council, including commissioners; representatives of the Emir of Gaya; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Senator representing Gombe North, Bayaro Nafada; Hon. Maki Elleman; Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Sidi; Hon. Hafizu Kawu Tarauni; serving and former heads of government agencies; technocrats; lawmakers; political associates; advisers; local government chairmen and other notable personalities.
The celebration continued with a reception held at Meenat Event Centre and the residence of the lawmaker, where guests from across the country joined the family to celebrate the union.
