More than 500 residents of Tarauni Local Government Area, Kano State, have received free eye examinations, medication and eyeglasses under the ABBA CARE programme.

The initiative, held at Unguwa Uku Hospital, targeted people with glaucoma, trachoma, cataracts and other vision problems.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, the Information Officer Tarauni Local Government.

Chairman of the council, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, who launched the programme, said it was part of the Kano State Government’s commitment—under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf—to deliver quality healthcare, particularly in tackling vision-related ailments.

“This effort reflects our dedication to improving community health. By providing free examinations, medication, and glasses, we are helping to restore sight and improve quality of life,” Sekure said.

Primary Healthcare Coordinator in Tarauni LG, Alhaji Muktar Datti Gwarzo, and the Councillor for Health, Amir Abdullahi Kima, praised the health workers and doctors whose efforts ensured the programme’s success.

Gwarzo disclosed that over 800 people were attended to—exceeding the original target of 500—with 35 patients referred to Murtala Hospital for free surgical operations.

He urged residents to take eye health seriously by undergoing regular check-ups.
