No fewer than 6,000 residents of Kano State have benefited from the 2025 Free Oral Health Outreach Campaign organised by the state government through the Ministry of Health.

The exercise, which began on August 16, came to a close on Friday at Filin Mushe Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwale Local Government Area, covering all 44 LGAs of the state.

Speaking during the closing of the programme, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Pharmacist Aminu Bashir, said the initiative was part of the administration’s broader strategy to strengthen preventive and primary healthcare.

“Oral health is one of the most neglected aspects of healthcare, yet it plays a vital role in overall wellbeing,” Bashir noted. “Untreated dental diseases can lead to severe complications. That is why this government is determined to expand access to essential services that protect the health of our citizens.”

He explained that the outreach offered free dental check-ups, treatments, distribution of oral hygiene kits, and community health education. “We want to encourage preventive practices so that fewer people suffer from avoidable oral diseases,” he added.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Idris Garba Amin, who underwent treatment during the exercise, expressed appreciation. “This programme came at the right time. Many of us cannot afford dental care in private hospitals. I thank the government for remembering ordinary people like us,” he said.

The Ministry of Health pledged to sustain such interventions in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of improving access to healthcare. “Health remains a top priority for this administration,” Bashir stressed.
