From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, has cautioned social media handlers and bloggers against spreading falsehoods that could cause unrest within the party.
Damagum issued this warning at the conclusion of a two-day capacity-building workshop on effective media awareness and promoting peace in the political arena, held for social media handlers from Northwest states.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Hon. Yusuf Dingyadi, Damagum underscored the need to focus on promoting the party’s manifestos and visions rather than divisive rhetoric.
He reassured party supporters and loyalists that there is no vacancy in the PDP’s leadership positions and condemned individuals attempting to exploit internal differences for personal gains.
“The current leadership is committed to fostering forgiveness, cohesion, and unity within the party, not division or propaganda,” he stated.
Damagum also urged party elites and leaders nationwide to prioritize building a united, disciplined, and progressive PDP that could effectively address Nigeria’s challenges.
The workshop, organized by the PDP Supporters Group, aimed to enhance the skills of social media handlers and align their activities with the party’s goals of cohesion and unity.
Over 50 participants from various Northwest states attended the event, which featured presentations and demonstrations on leadership and the challenges of digitalization.
In a related development, Dr. Suleiman Aliyu-Gafai, Head of Media Mobilization and Political Awareness for the PDP Supporters Group, described the ongoing leadership crises within the party as disappointing.
He called on PDP leaders and members, particularly from northern Nigeria, to unite and strengthen the party into a formidable platform capable of reclaiming the country from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
