The Steering Committee for the establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science, Damaturu, has commenced the screening of teachers as part of preparations for the official commencement of academic activities at the institution.

The exercise is aimed at selecting qualified, competent, and dedicated teachers who will form the pioneer teaching workforce of the college and deliver quality science and integrated education in line with the vision of Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, to transform the education sector.

The Chairman of the Steering Committee and Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idris Adam, said the screening process was designed to identify teachers with the required knowledge, skills, and commitment to drive the objectives of the new institution.

He disclosed that 92 teachers drawn from the Teaching Service Board (TSB), State Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB), and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State are participating in the exercise.

The screening is being conducted at the Government Girls Unity College (GGUC), Damaturu, where candidates are being assessed in key areas such as teaching methodology, pedagogy, classroom management, and basic education principles.

Prof. Abba said the establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science reflects the state government’s commitment to investing in science, technology, and innovation as a pathway to developing future scientists, researchers, innovators, and technology-driven professionals.

He noted that the institution is expected to serve as a centre of excellence for science and integrated education, providing students with a strong foundation to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Yobe State and Nigeria.

The Commissioner assured that the selection process would be transparent, merit-based, and credible, stressing that only the best candidates would be chosen to pioneer teaching activities at the college.

He expressed confidence that the selected educators would play a crucial role in actualising the vision of making the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science a model institution for science education in the state.
