The UNICEF implemented interventions in Sokoto State was aimed at empowering adolescent girls and boys across some selected Schools has started yeilding impacts especially among students trainees in skill acquisition training.
Ali Fodio Government Secondary School Takatuku in Bodinga town is part of the school benefitted with UNICEF’s interventions.
The UNICEF intervention in Sokoto State aimed at empowering adolescent girls and boys on how to be self reliance.
At least,100 students of the school have received various skills acquisition training programmes which so far started making prospects to Sokoto and Nigeria as a whole in the near future .
Usman Shehu, a class 3 pupil of Ali Fodio Junior Secondary School Bodinga who participated in the UNICEF ,Digital Literacy Skills training has invented a solar powered electricity using locally source materials.
The School authority displayed the student’s designed two storey building powered by solar panels before a team of Journalists and officials of UNICEF who visited the school as part of two-day workshop field visit to the school in Bodinga town, the headquarters of Bodinga local government area of the state.
Shehu who exhibited his talents and explained to visiting team also said he developed the idea of inventing the solar powered panel as a result of the UNICEF skills intervention training he is received in the school.
Usman, 18 years old, privileged to participating in the UNICEF sponsor training also designed a two upstair storey building apartment with locally made materials.
The student who was optimistic in working assiduously toward making his dream of becoming an engineer as a reality.
While assured to sacrifice his time to teach other students to enable them understand and succeed in their respective courses of interest.
He explained that the solar energy powered panel was designed with local rubber and some metal to provide energy for domestic house consumption.
According to him ,the solar panel initiated to source energy from the sun light and store it, with the help of a charger inverter to control panel to regular the capacity of the energy in the battery panel for onward use domestic utilisation .
He also announced that with the knowledge acquire as trainee of the Digital Literacy skills sponsoring and support by UNICEF was highly educative, encouraging motivating factor toward starting constructing an aeroplane soon.
The young inventor also commended the UNICEF for organising the training and consider him to participate which is an opportunity to explore young talented persons advance their academic pursuits for the state anf nation development.
On his part,the principal of the school,Malam Murtala Muhammad said the UNICEF intervention programme is contributing immensely and making impact especially toward increasing students attendance to the school.
Muhammad noted that with the introduction of the UNICEF training in the school there was a significant increase of students attending classes unlike before were the school experienced absenteeism especially during rainy season.
The principal said no fewer than 100 students of the school are participating in the UNICEF intervention programmes.
He maintain that the impact of the various interventions are contributing to students’ academic performances and wellbeing of the school’s pupils and by extension school neighborhood communities.
To ease their training,the students were divided into cluster groups which includes Girls students who are participating in Girls for Girls (G4G),followed by another Boys and Girls for (He for She) programmes and another boys for digital literacy skills respectively.
Other students interviewed who participated in the program thanks UNICEF for the kind gesture.
Rabiatu Abubakar,Mustapha Abubakar and Asiya Shehu said they were trained on various handcraft skills and were now earning some money which they use to support their education.
These according to the UNICEF training participants was in addition to the vast knowledge their acquired as trainees.
