The Sokoto Sultanate Council has said the proposed amendment of Sokoto State Local Government Law 2008 would not deprive the Sultan of his powers and other official engagements.
Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar who stated this on Tuesday at a public hearing in Sokoto also clarified that the new law being introduced by the Sokoto State Government regarding the traditional leadership system aims to strengthen the sultanate.
Alhaji Sa’ad who was represented at the occasion by the Sa’in Kilgore, Dr Muhammad Jabbi Kilgore, also said the new law if actualised will improve the well-being of the Muslims Community in the state and beyond.
The new law introduced by the state government regarding the traditional leadership system has received widespread support from various stakeholders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar Ill, and the Sultanate Council.
He debunked rumours spread by some individuals that the law seeks to undermine the authority of the Sultan or diminish his powers.
The representative also expressed the Sultan’s appreciation for the efforts of the Sokoto State government, led by Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, in promoting peace and understanding in the state.
He urged the public to disregard rumours and misinformation spread by some individuals seeking to create divisions between the government and the Sultanate.
Other stakeholders who attended the public hearing also expressed their support for the new law and commended the government’s efforts in promoting the well-being of the Muslim community in Sokoto State.
