Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb
Manasseh Mutfwang, has paid glowing tribute to the women, youths, and children whose sacrifices and demonstrations of solidarity contributed to the Supreme Court’s reaffirmation of his electoral mandate.
Governor Mutfwang made the remarks during a thanksgiving service held on Sunday at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters Church, Jos, to commemorate three years of his administration and reflect on God’s faithfulness, guidance, and protection throughout his tenure.
The event attracted a distinguished gathering of former governors, serving and former senators, ministers, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across Plateau State.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Mutfwang expressed profound gratitude to God for sustaining him through the challenges of leadership, including the 2023 electoral process, legal battles that nearly nullified his victory, and persistent security challenges facing the state.
“Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” the governor declared.
Reflecting on the administration’s achievements, Mutfwang revealed that over N16 billion had been spent on pensions and gratuities, while more than N4 billion had been provided as medical assistance to vulnerable and indigent citizens.
He highlighted investments in transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, water supply, and peacebuilding initiatives aimed at promoting development and unity across the state.
“When I saw women dancing after water returned to communities that had gone nearly 20 years without public water supply, I shed tears. These are the images that push me on,” he said.
The governor also noted that the Plateau Specialist Hospital now houses one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country, with standards recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
He commended the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the State Ambulance Service for their contributions to improved healthcare delivery.
As his administration enters its fourth year, Governor Mutfwang called on citizens to remain united, prayerful, and committed to building a peaceful, prosperous, and secure Plateau State.
He reiterated his determination to defend the state’s heritage and ensure that the voices of its people are heard.
Speaking on behalf of former governors, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.) praised Governor Mutfwang’s dedication and commitment to transforming the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting and praying for the administration.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo thanked Plateau citizens for entrusting the administration with the responsibility of restoring confidence in governance and fostering peace and development.
She highlighted significant achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment.
Also speaking, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, Da Isaac Wakili, commended the governor’s commitment to peace, unity, and development.
He urged political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric capable of undermining the state’s progress.
In his sermon titled “Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity,” Plateau State CAN Chairman, Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, emphasized the importance of gratitude and unity, urging citizens to support efforts aimed at tackling insecurity and promoting peace.
“Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. We must work together in unity to rewrite our story. What unites us must always be greater than what divides us,” he said.
The thanksgiving service also featured special prayers for peace, unity, security, and continued progress in Plateau State, as well as prayers for God’s wisdom, strength, and protection for Governor Mutfwang and his administration.
