No fewer than six persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps, have lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial Hummer bus along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song Road in Adamawa State.

In a statement, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that the crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m. when a military vehicle travelling from Gombi to Yola collided head-on with a commercial bus conveying passengers from Yola to Mubi.

According to the statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the impact of the collision caused the bus to overturn and burst into flames, trapping all occupants inside.

Further preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

However, initial identification efforts indicated that four of the deceased were serving corps members deployed to Adamawa State.

Two of the corps members were identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims and notify their families.

The command also confirmed that a military personnel attached to the gun truck died in the crash, bringing the total number of fatalities to six.

Emergency responders, including police officers, were deployed to the scene to carry out rescue and recovery operations.

The remains of the deceased were evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola.

Commenting on the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the National Youth Service Corps.

He described the incident as painful and assured the public that a thorough investigation has been launched to determine its cause.

The Command added that further details would be released as investigations progress.
