The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Hajiya Aisha Garba, has visited Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to discuss the soon-to-be-commissioned Bilingual School in Kiru Local Government Area and ongoing basic education projects across the state.
During the courtesy visit, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining a strong partnership with UBEC to advance basic education, describing education as a central pillar of his developmental agenda.
He said the state government would continue to admit students strictly on merit and ensure the deployment of qualified teachers and essential non-teaching staff—including security personnel, sanitation workers, and laborers—to guarantee a conducive learning environment in the new Kiru Bilingual School.
The Governor also highlighted recent government efforts to enhance human capital development, including the sponsorship of numerous Kano indigenes for postgraduate studies abroad and within Nigeria.
“These investments are part of our long-term vision to build a strong base of skilled professionals capable of driving development in the state,” he said.
Yusuf assured the UBEC leadership that the state was fully prepared to sustain operations of the new Bilingual School, adding that the facility would serve as a major educational asset for communities in Kiru and beyond.
Earlier, the UBEC Executive Secretary said her visit was aimed at inspecting the completed Kiru school and seeking the Governor’s approval for its commissioning before the end of December.
She explained that the project, funded jointly by the Islamic Development Bank, the Federal Government, and the Kano State Government, had reached 100 percent completion. She further disclosed that similar Bilingual Schools were under construction in Doguwa, Ungogo, and Ganduje through the same partnership.
Hajiya Aisha appealed to the Governor to continue supporting UBEC’s programmes, particularly in sustaining high standards and ensuring strict supervision of ongoing school projects across the state.
She was accompanied by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), Mr. Razak Olujuwon Akinyemi, who oversees the 19 northern states, and other senior officials of the Commission.
The visit, according to officials, reflects renewed collaboration between the Kano State Government and UBEC to strengthen infrastructure, access, and quality across the basic education sector.
