The Chief Medical Director of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Professor Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, has stated that the hospital has undergone major expansion and upgrading of equipment and other critical sectors to meet modern healthcare standards.

Professor Ikpeme disclosed this in an interview with our reporter in Calabar, stating that the hospital has been transformed to an international standard healthcare institution capable of handling complex medical cases.

According to the CMD, the hospital currently serves over five million patients within and outside Nigeria, including people from neighbouring states such as Ebonyi, as well as neighbouring countries like Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

He explained that the increasing number of patients prompted the management to expand the hospital’s capacity to a 260-bed facility in order to improve healthcare delivery and accommodate more patients.

Professor Ikpeme also dismissed allegations that the hospital rejects patients, describing such claims as untrue.

“UCTH does not discriminate against anybody, and it is not true that patients are rejected,” he said.

The CMD further assured that the management remains committed to improving medical services, upgrading facilities, and maintaining quality healthcare delivery for patients across the region.
