Umar Idris Shuaibu, the Publisher of The Historica Nigeria, an online newspaper platform, hails from Kano State in the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Born in 1994 at Durumin Zungura Quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government, Umar comes from the family of Malam Idris Shuaibu, a Fulani man, and Hajara Shuaibu. His maternal grandfather, a renowned Islamic scholar, served with the Nigerian Prisons Service (now Nigerian Correctional Service).

Umar began his education at Gidan Makama Primary School before completing his primary studies at Adda’awah in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Hotoro, for his junior secondary education. In 2009, after excelling in the Science and Technical Schools Board Examination, he secured admission into the prestigious Government Science College, Dawakin Kudu, Kano State.

He later advanced his studies at Kano State Polytechnic, where he obtained a Diploma in Mass Communication, an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration, and a Higher National Diploma in Public Administration. To further strengthen his academic and professional background, he also earned a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Public Administration and Human Resource from the same institution.

As a digital journalist, Umar has garnered broad experience across electronic and online media. He worked with Freedom Radio, Kano’s first indigenous private FM station, as a news reporter, presenter, and sub-editor for four years.

He also served as the pioneer reporter of Daily News 24, an online newspaper based in Kano, between 2020 and 2022. In 2022, he joined Premier Radio as a news producer, while also taking up a role at Kano State Investment and Properties Limited.

Beyond journalism, Umar is actively involved in unionism. As a staff of a financial institution, he contributed to the growth of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution Employees (NUBIFIE), KSIP Chapter.

His journalistic interests span agriculture, environment, and human-interest reporting. Today, Umar is the driving force behind The Historica Nigeria, a digital news platform dedicated to topical issues, historical narratives, and cultural heritage.

He is married to Hauwa Abdullahi Shuaibu, and the union is blessed with a daughter, Hajara (Nawwara).
