The Women of Words Writers Association has celebrated its second anniversary with an award ceremony recognising distinguished personalities for their contributions to writing, journalism, culture, film production and community development.
The event attracted prominent personalities from Kano State and other parts of the country, including representatives of government institutions, writers, journalists and creative industry practitioners.
Among those honoured were the Executive Secretary of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau, Arc. Ahmad Abba Yusuf; the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Mai Mota, who was represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Office of the Head of Service; and a renowned writer from Jigawa State, Ba Mai Daguwa Kirikasamma.
Other award recipients included film producer Usman Mu’azu, a veteran journalist, Comrade Zubairu Mohammed Mai Danyi, Baba Lili Gabari and another distinguished personality from Katsina State.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau, Arc. Ahmad Abba Yusuf, congratulated the association on its second anniversary and commended its members for their efforts towards promoting writing and preserving cultural heritage.
He advised members to remain committed to documenting important events, personalities and developments in society, stressing the importance of preserving historical records for future generations.
Arc. Ahmad Abba Yusuf also encouraged members of the association to submit and register their written works with the Kano State History and Culture Bureau’s library and archives to ensure that their contributions become part of the state’s historical records.
He emphasised that writers have an important responsibility in documenting society’s experiences, preserving its history and promoting cultural identity.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to recognise individuals whose contributions have helped promote literature, journalism, cultural preservation and creative expression.
