Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni CON  has congratulated 167 Yobe state students who have graduated in Medical sciences, computer science and Engineering courses in five Universities in India.

Hon. Ciroma Buba Mashio, Speaker of the state House of Assembly,  who represented Governor Buni, said the graduates would add to the number of manpower requirements in the state health institutions and other areas of need.

The state government sponsored 233 students, popularly referred to as Yobe scholars, to seven universities in India to study specialised courses in Medical sciences, Computer science, and Engineering.

A total of 63 students were sponsored to GD Goenka University; 58 have graduated, while five others are still pursuing their studies, and out of the 84 students sponsored to Integral University, 73 have graduated, with 11 others still in the university.

The state government also sponsored 22 students at Kalinga University, who have all graduated, while one student at PP Savani University has also graduated with 24 others who were later admitted to the University pursuing their studies.

There are currently 10 state students at DIT University, 13 at VGU University, and 13 others at Glocal University still pursuing their studies.

“The number of optometrists trained in the last four years is over 400%, the number of those trained since the creation of the state. The same goes for pharmacists: those trained in the last four years is 400 per cent more than those trained since the creation of the state in 1991,” the governor said.

The students graduated with flying colours in Medical laboratory science, Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Application, Optometry and Physiotherapy.

Nigeria’s High Commission in India commended the Yobe State government for the exemplary manner in which it implemented the student scholarship project and welfare in India, saying it is a role model worthy of emulation.
