Youth groups in Yobe State have endorsed Lawan Kolo Geidam to contest the 2027 governorship election, citing his extensive public service experience, grassroots leadership, and commitment to youth mentorship.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday in Damaturu by the Democratic Enlightenment for Good Governance, a youth-led organisation with operations across the state.
Coordinator of the group, Adamu Hussaini Yunusa, said the decision followed wide consultations involving 178 coordinators from the state’s local government areas.
“Yobe requires a leader with proven capacity in public administration, politics, and grassroots mobilisation to sustain development,” Yunusa said.
He highlighted Geidam’s record of service at local, state, and national levels, including his tenure as a local government chairman and civil servant. Geidam currently serves as Permanent Secretary, Youth Development, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Abuja.
Yunusa said Geidam had consistently supported youth education, skills acquisition, and self-reliance programmes, helping many young people enter business, civil service, and non-governmental organisations.
“He remains accessible and continues to mentor and guide youths even after leaving the state, earning their confidence and loyalty,” he added.
The coordinator noted that the endorsement was also motivated by a desire to sustain human capital development and inclusive governance gains in Yobe. He said the youths believed Geidam could attract the investments and partnerships necessary to consolidate infrastructure and economic growth.
Yunusa described the endorsement as a collective call to service from youths across the state, who have adopted Geidam as their preferred candidate for 2027.
In his remarks, a close associate of the aspirant, Adamu Yahaya Alabura, a former local government chairman, assured the youths that their message would be conveyed to Geidam at the appropriate time.
