The management of Michael Imoudu National Institute For Labour Studies (MINILS) has described Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has the most friendly among his colleagues considering his comments towards building responsive and vibrant trade unions in the state.

A press release issued by the governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the statement was contained in a Letter of Appreciation sent to Governor Yusuf which was signed by Dr. Raji Michael on behalf Director General and Chief Executive of the institute.

The letter read: “I must indeed confirm that you are the most labour friendly governor in the country being the first governor in Nigeria to sponsor this type of capacity building workshop for the labour leaders in the state in the year 2024.

“Your Excellency, on behalf of Hon. Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkiru Onyejeocho, the Institute writes to acknowledge with gratitude your commitment to worker’s education and for the sponsorship of union executives and members of Nigeria Labour Congress, Kano Chapter is participate in the just concluded special workshop on ‘Conflict Management for Harmonious Industrial Labour Relations Environment,’ from 11-13 September, 2024.”

It further added that: “The institute particularly appreciates your continuous effort geared towards building responsive and vibrant trade unions in Kano State necessary for promoting peaceful industrial relations climate for the progress of the state,”

According to the letter, the training provided valuable insights and practical conflict resolution strategies that would foster effective labour- management relations for higher workers’ productivity.

He said the participants returned home with a renewed sense of purpose, adding that they are eager to apply what they have learned.

While the institute appreciated your trust, Dr. Michael said, the institute is also seeking for more collaborative opportunities to assist in equipping the labour to advance more.

The director general commended the state governor’s commitment towards the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage in Kano State.

It could be recalled today Tuesday, Governor Yusuf approved N71,000 as minimum wage for the state civil servants.
