An 18-year-old housewife is on the run after allegedly stabbing her husband in a violent domestic incident in Yobe State.
The Yobe State Police Command said the attack occurred on Friday, in Potiskum.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call around 3:00pm reporting that the incident had occurred earlier at about 1:00am.
The suspect, Khadija Jamilu, allegedly used a knife to inflict a deep injury on the genital organ of her 25-year-old husband.
“Police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention,” Abdulkareem said. He added that the victim was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, where he is receiving treatment.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect fled immediately after the attack and remains at large. “Efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect, while investigation into the incident continues,” he said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and urged couples to avoid resolving marital disputes through violence.
“Marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. It must never be an avenue for violence or abuse,” he said.
The CP further advised couples to seek counselling, embrace peaceful dialogue, and involve parents, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when conflicts escalate.
The command also called on community leaders and families to educate youths on healthy relationships and non-violent conflict resolution.
