From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
A serving Senator, Abdulaziz Musa Yardua, has distributed empowerment items and cash assistance worth over N1.596 billion to constituents across 12 local government areas in Katsina State, in a move aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic stability
The distribution exercise, held at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, featured a wide range of items including Hilux vehicles, ambulances, Keke NAPEP tricycles, refrigerators, grinding machines, motorcycles, and mobile phones, among others.
In addition, 100 bicycles were provided to secondary school students from Danmusa Local Government Area to ease transportation challenges and improve school attendance.
Senator Yardua also announced a cash support package of N150 million as part of the empowerment programme.
He explained that the beneficiaries cut across various groups including APC members, youths, women, students, traditional rulers, community watch corps members, and Islamic scholars.
Speaking at the event, Yardua defended his stewardship over the past three years, stating that he had facilitated training programmes for hundreds of youths in computer skills, solar technology, and POS operations.
He also noted that under his constituency projects, he had provided equipment worth over N300 million to the Katsina Federal Medical Centre.
According to him, he has also supported victims of banditry attacks with cash, food items, and clothing, while actively engaging in legislative duties as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.
He revealed that he has sponsored five bills currently awaiting second reading at the National Assembly.
Yardua further appealed for understanding from constituents, saying public office comes with human imperfections, and assured that his doors remain open for advice and constructive criticism as he seeks re-election for a second term.
In his remarks, Governor Umar Dikko Radda commended the initiative, describing it as unprecedented among elected senators in the state.
He praised Senator Yardua for his commitment to improving livelihoods and urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the items received.
The governor also encouraged continued collaboration in efforts to strengthen security and promote sustainable development across Katsina State.
