The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed that a good samaritan driver submitted forgotten valuables found in his vehicle to the command after a passenger reportedly left the items behind while travelling from Calabar to 8 Miles in Cross River State on Friday, May 8, 2026.
According to the command, the recovered items are suspected to belong to a police officer who boarded a commercial mini bus from Calabar Municipal to 8 Miles.
In a statement issued to journalists in Calabar, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, said the command wished to inform members of the public and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force about the recovered lost-and-found property.
He explained that the driver of the mini bus responsibly recovered the forgotten bag and handed it over to Hit FM, which later transferred the items to the Police Public Relations Department (PPRD) of the command for identification and collection by the rightful owner.
Items recovered include a black backpack, mobile phone accessories and charger, power bank, belt, tablet/iPad pouch, tactical belt/strap, clothing materials, and other personal effects.
The command appealed to all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), heads of formations, and officers within the command to assist in circulating the information to help identify the owner of the items.
The statement further advised that any officer with useful information regarding the ownership of the recovered property should contact the Police Public Relations Department at the State Command Headquarters in Calabar.
The Cross River State Police Command also commended the honesty, civic responsibility, and exemplary conduct displayed by the mini bus driver and the management of Hit FM for ensuring the safe recovery and transfer of the property.
