One of the chieftains of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and a loyalist of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso speaks on the Kwankwaso–Peter Obi alliance in this interview conducted with our reporter, Rabiu Sanusi.
Triumph: There are reports that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may move from the ADC to the NDC because of court-related challenges facing the party. What is your reaction?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
Politics naturally comes with challenges, including legal and internal issues, but we are not disturbed by any court matter.
These are temporary issues that cannot stop the movement or the determination of our leaders and supporters.
The discussions about Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s possible movement from the ADC to the NDC are part of broader political realignments aimed at building a stronger national platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.
We are confident that everything will be resolved legally and peacefully. What Nigerians should understand is that this movement is bigger than political parties or court cases. It is driven by the frustrations and hopes of millions of citizens who want a better Nigeria.
Triumph: Many Nigerians are talking about the growing relationship between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ahead of 2027. How strong is this alliance?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
The alliance is very strong and promising. What many people are witnessing today goes beyond ordinary politics. Nigerians are tired of hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and poor governance.
The coming together of Peter Obi and Senator Kwankwaso represents hope for millions of Nigerians. Both leaders have strong grassroots support and national acceptance.
Honestly, if you travel across the North today, you will see the love people have for Kwankwaso. Go to the South, and you will witness the same level of support for Peter Obi. Bringing these two personalities together is creating serious excitement among Nigerians, especially young people.
Triumph: Some people believe the alliance may not have enough national spread to defeat bigger political parties in 2027. What can you say to that?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
I completely disagree with that opinion. The reality on the ground is different. Northern Nigeria strongly believes in Kwankwaso because of his leadership qualities, political experience, and grassroots connection.
In the South, Peter Obi continues to enjoy massive support, especially among youths and ordinary citizens. When you combine these two forces, you are looking at one of the strongest political movements Nigeria has seen in recent years.
Many political observers are underestimating silent voters. Nigerians are angry about the economic situation and insecurity. People are waiting for the right platform and leadership to support, and I can confidently tell you that the Kwankwaso–Obi alliance is gaining momentum daily.
Triumph: There are discussions about Peter Obi as President and Kwankwaso as Vice President. Do you think Nigerians will accept such an arrangement?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
Yes, Nigerians are already embracing the idea because people are looking for competent and trustworthy leadership.
Nigerians want unity, development, and leaders who genuinely care about the masses. Peter Obi and Kwankwaso have shown capacity, discipline, and commitment to national progress.
The support we are seeing from both Northern and Southern Nigeria is a clear indication that Nigerians are ready for this kind of partnership.
This is not about tribe or religion; it is about competence and national rescue. Nigerians are wiser now and want leaders who can revive the economy, create opportunities, and restore confidence in governance.
Triumph: Some critics claim the movement is only popular on social media. Is that true?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
Not at all. What we are witnessing goes far beyond social media. The support is on the streets, in markets, schools, communities, and among ordinary Nigerians. Young people are frustrated with the current situation and are looking for leaders they can trust.
The truth is that the movement is becoming stronger because Nigerians now believe their votes and voices can shape the future. People are becoming more politically conscious than ever before.
Triumph: What gives you confidence that this movement can succeed in 2027?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
The confidence comes from the people themselves. Everywhere you go today, Nigerians are demanding change and credible leadership. Youths, women, traders, students, and ordinary citizens are supporting this mission because they believe it represents the future of the country.
This movement is not built on propaganda; it is built on the genuine desire to rebuild Nigeria and restore hope.
I strongly believe 2027 will surprise many people politically because Nigerians are more united now around the idea of good governance and national development.
Triumph: What message do you have for Nigerians and supporters of the movement?
Abdullahi Mai Kano:
My message is simple: Nigerians should remain united and focused. This movement is about rescuing the country and building a better future for everyone.
People should not allow politics of division or intimidation to distract them. With unity, patience, and determination, Nigerians can achieve the change they desire in 2027.
The future of Nigeria belongs to the people, and with committed leadership and unity, our country can rise again.
