The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has been thrown into confusion following allegations of imposition and dissatisfaction surrounding the party’s House of Representatives primary elections across the state’s eight federal constituencies.
The APC election committee announced the winners of the primaries on Sunday in Yola.
Chairman of the committee, Ahmed Yusha’u, described the exercise as free, fair and credible, stating that the primaries were conducted across the 21 local government areas of the state in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, as well as the APC constitution and guidelines.
According to him, the following candidates emerged to represent the party in the 2027 general elections:
Nyampa Zakaria – Michika Federal Constituency
James Barka – Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency
Kwamoti Laori – Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency
Golfa Mallam – Guyuk/Shelleng Federal Constituency
Suleiman Gankuba – Jada/Ganye/Mayo-Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency
Aliyu Wakili Boya – Fufore/Song Federal Constituency
Ahmad Salihijo – Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency
Ramatu Bello – Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha Federal Constituency
Yusha’u had earlier urged aspirants and their supporters to remain peaceful and conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the elections.
However, the outcome of the primaries has reportedly sparked tension within the party, with some aspirants and stakeholders alleging pressure and imposition in parts of the state.
The development is believed to have deepened internal divisions within the Adamawa APC, especially in constituencies where some aspirants had earlier protested alleged attempts to force them to step down ahead of the primaries.
Party stakeholders are now calling for reconciliation to prevent further crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.
