From Maawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
Strange worms have invaded farmland in Katsina State causing fear of possible famine in the state.
Our Correspondent reports that farmland hit by the presence of the worms is located in the Batagarawa, Daura and Funtua areas.
Further investigation revealed that the Worms have eaten newly planted crops, especially maize, Guinea corn and millet.
Reacting to the situation, the state chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Umar Ya’u Gwajo-Gwajo called for urgent intervention of the State government to save the situation.
Gwajo-Gwajo lamented that the Worms have invaded many farmlands belonging to farmers.
“Report reaching us indicated that newly planted crops of Maize, Millet and Guineacorn were destroyed by the worms.
“We appeal to the government to urgently commence spray of chemicals on the affected farmland to stop the spread of the worms to other parts of the state,” Gwajo-Gwajo added.
