Kano state Government, under the able leadership of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, will begin to prosecute all tax defaulters in the coming year of 2025 as part of its major reform in the tax administration.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kaduna.
The statement said Dr Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of Kano State Internal Revenue Services (KIRS), during a presentation to the Governor at the ongoing High-Level Retreat for top government officials.
Dr Zaid Abubakar further said the reform is not targeted at increasing taxes but rather increasing the efficiency of collection and compliance with the tax administration.
According to the statement, Kano has projected the generation of over twenty billion naira within every quarter of 2025.
It could be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has relieved the immediate past chairman of the revenue service and appointed a new management structure, a decision that has significantly turned around the performance of the agency in the third and fourth quarters of 2024.
To ensure effective reform in the revenue generation the Governor would commission a new model of tax collection that will guarantee significant increase in revenue generation for the 2025 fiscal year to fulfil the campaign promises across various critical sectors of human endeavour.
