The Katsina Katsina ACReSAL Project has organized a training workshop on climate-smart agriculture and the sustainable use of farm inputs for farmers drawn from Katsina, Jibia, and Kaita Local Government Areas.
The workshop, held at the conference hall of Sahara Suites Hotel, Katsina, brought together farmers, agricultural experts, and members of the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and improve agricultural productivity.
Declaring the workshop open, the Katsina ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Nafiu Mohammed Musa, said the training was designed to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to maximize the benefits of agricultural support materials that will soon be distributed by the project.
He explained that the initiative is part of ACReSAL’s commitment to enhancing agricultural resilience, improving food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices across the state.
Nafiu also highlighted that the project has recorded remarkable achievements due to the support and commitment of the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for creating an enabling environment that has allowed the project to effectively implement interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities.
He urged participants to pay close attention to the presentations and apply the knowledge gained to improve their farming activities.
Earlier, the Environmental Safeguard Officer of the project, who also serves as Agricultural Officer, Sanusi Mohammed Faskari, outlined the objectives of the training.
He said the workshop was organized to educate farmers on modern agricultural practices that help them adapt to climate change while ensuring the responsible and efficient use of inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, and agrochemicals.
Malam Tanimu Hamza of the Katsina State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KTARDA) delivered a detailed presentation on the sustainable use of farm inputs.
He stressed the importance of proper application to improve crop yields, reduce waste, and minimize environmental impact.
Also, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic presented a paper on climate-smart agriculture, explaining strategies farmers can adopt to cope with changing weather patterns, conserve natural resources, and enhance productivity sustainably.
During an interactive session, Dr. Aminu Sa’idu Ado responded to participants’ questions and provided further clarification on climate change adaptation, soil management, and best agricultural practices.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their farming experiences and challenges across their communities.
They expressed appreciation to the Katsina ACReSAL Project for organizing the workshop, describing it as timely and beneficial.
They noted that the knowledge gained would help improve their farming methods, increase productivity, and ensure better use of agricultural inputs.
The participants also pledged to apply the lessons learned and share the knowledge with other farmers in their respective communities.
