From Joseph Asegba, Yola
The Adamawa State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected its State Executive Committee through a consensus process.
Addressing party members at Mahmud Square in Yola, the leader of the APC in the state and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said the journey to this point may have been short but was highly revealing.
He noted that it began with the decision of some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to align with the APC.
The governor stated: “With this congress today, we now have a new APC in Adamawa State, with structures and executives at the ward, local government, and state levels.
“Beyond meeting the constitutional requirement for party structures, we have advanced from alignment to full fusion.
We are now united as one strong progressive party in the state, with authority anchored in the Government House.”
He added that the APC is a party built on mergers and alliances, stressing that the party willingly embraced new members in line with its foundational culture.
Fintiri further explained that the party adjusted the dates for its state congresses in Adamawa to accommodate the aligning groups.
He described the process as politically significant, noting that despite the short period, it had demonstrated a strong mutual desire for unity.
“We truly need one another and can work together. This is evident in the seamless alignment process and the milestones achieved within a short period,” he said.
According to the governor, the process from ward congresses to local government and now the state congress demonstrates the collective resolve and maturity required to build a strong and politically vibrant party capable of winning elections at all levels.
“Fellow party members, we have grown this quickly because, as leaders, we have been open to one another.
“As politicians, we have been pragmatic in making concessions, and as democrats, we have remained committed to transparent engagement with citizens, stakeholders, interest groups, and the electorate,” he added.
Fintiri also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, members of the National Working Committee, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other stakeholders from both the APC and PDP who contributed to the successful fusion.
Speaking earlier, the APC Zonal Chairman, Hon. Barrister Idris Shuaibu, said the congress, which covered 226 wards, 21 local government areas, and the state level, was conducted peacefully without any intimidation.
He added that Adamawa is among the states that conducted one of the freest congresses, expressing confidence that the party will win future elections.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Adamawa State Congress Committee, Ambassador Baba Gana Ajimi, said the exercise was conducted in accordance with Articles 11 and 20 (as amended), which empowered the committee to select new state executives through consensus.
He announced that Hamza Alhaji Bello Madagali emerged as State Chairman, with Dr. Raymond Chidama as Deputy Chairman. Mustapha Atiku was named Secretary, while Bature Moses emerged as Assistant Secretary, among other officials.
In his acceptance speech, the new APC Chairman, Hamza Alhaji Bello Madagali, described the development as a new beginning for the party, emphasizing that politics should be about service to the people.
Madagali, who noted that he was formerly a member of the PDP, assured party members that his leadership would be inclusive. “I will provide a level playing field for all,” he said, urging party members and aspirants to work together for the success of the party.
