The Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved a ₦583.3bn budget for the 2026 fiscal year following the adoption of the report of its Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation.

The approval came after the House considered the committee’s report, which was presented by its chairman, Haruna Jilantikiri, representing Madagali Constituency.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had earlier presented the 2026 budget proposal to the Assembly for legislative consideration.

The budget consideration process commenced after the Majority Leader, Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa Constituency), moved a motion for the House to resolve into the Committee of Supply, allowing lawmakers to scrutinise the proposal in detail.

After deliberations, the House adopted the committee’s recommendations.

Mamuno subsequently moved the motion for the third reading of the Appropriation Bill, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Suleiman Alkali (Yola North Constituency), leading to the passage of the budget.

Speaking after the approval, Mamuno described the budget as people-oriented, noting that its implementation would significantly improve the welfare of residents of the state.

He said the Assembly found the proposal worthy of passage, given its alignment with the needs and aspirations of the people.

Also speaking, Jilantikiri said the approval would enable Governor Fintiri to consolidate ongoing developmental projects and expand interventions across critical sectors in 2026.

He expressed optimism that the implementation of the budget would translate into increased dividends of democracy for the people of Adamawa State.
