The Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of office of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Rashid Bello Afegbua as the 34th Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar.
A statement issued on Monday by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, DSP Jefferson Osupe, described the new AIG as a seasoned legal practitioner and accomplished police officer with more than three decades of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the statement, AIG Afegbua holds a Bachelor of Science (Education) in Economics from the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma, now Ambrose Alli University, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons.) from the University of Calabar, and a Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification from the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
Born on August 22, 1968, into the Afegbua Royal Family of Okpella in Edo State, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992 after completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River State.
Throughout his career, AIG Afegbua has served in several strategic operational and command positions across the country, earning recognition for his professionalism, leadership, intelligence-led policing, administrative expertise, and commitment to technology-driven policing.
Before his deployment to Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, he served as Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Training at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated capacity-building programmes and championed police reform initiatives.
He also previously served as Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command.
The statement highlighted his extensive professional training, including courses at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Gwoza; Police Staff College, Jos; National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja; Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC); Interpol Week; Joint Operational Planning Course; and the Digital Rights Inclusion Forum in Zambia, among others.
AIG Afegbua is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Society for Peace and Practice (SPSP), and the Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD).
The Police expressed confidence that the new AIG would provide strategic leadership in strengthening security, promoting community policing, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring effective policing across the states under Zone 6.
AIG Rashid Bello Afegbua, who enjoys travelling, reading, and watching movies, is married and blessed with children.
