From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina
No fewer than 13 serving members of the Katsina State House of Assembly have failed to secure return tickets under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The Triumph gathered that the affected lawmakers have served either two or three terms in the State Assembly.
Those who reportedly lost their party tickets are representatives of Kankia, Charanchi, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Jibia, Matazu, Musawa, Malumfashi, Funtua, Ingawa, Bindawa, Batagarawa and Faskari constituencies.
Our correspondent reports that the lawmakers lost their bids for re-election following the rejection of their candidacies by stakeholders in their respective constituencies.
Speaking with The Triumph on condition of anonymity, one of the affected lawmakers, who has served three terms in the Assembly, expressed disappointment over the outcome.
“My predecessor served four terms, and my ambition was also to complete four terms in office. I believe the party should have given me another opportunity to continue representing my people,” he said.
According to him, legislative duties require experience, dedication and commitment, qualities he claimed to have demonstrated during his years in the House.
Despite losing the party ticket, the lawmaker pledged to remain loyal to the APC and work towards the party’s victory in the elections.
Another affected member said he had accepted the decision of the stakeholders in good faith and prayed for the success of all APC candidates in the forthcoming polls.
